Throw Away These Recalled COVID Test Kits

The diagnostic testing company Detect has voluntarily recalled more than 11,000 of their Detect COVID-19 test kits, due to an increased chance that the tests may give false negative results. As many of these things go, the recall comes “out of an abundance of caution.”

Which COVID test kits are being recalled?

You can recognize the recalled test kits by their lot numbers and use-by dates, and you can see a picture of the kits’ white-and-yellow box on the FDA’s recall announcement. The over-the-counter test kits were shipped to customers between Jul. 26 and Aug. 26, 2022.

What to do with your recalled test kit

Keep in mind that the reliability of positive test results are still expected to be accurate, so if your recalled Detect test kit says you have COVID, consider those results as valid as you normally would. You can go ahead and throw away the recalled test kits though, with the exception of their “Detect Hubs,” which isn’t affected by the recall. If you got your kits directly from Direct, you should have gotten an email with the details of the recall, and that’s all you’ll need to get a refund. If you want to contact Detect directly about the recall, you can reach them at (855) 322 3692 or support@detect.com.
