What's New on Disney+ in January 2023

New year, same old Disney+ streaming strategy: Add a bunch of fairly obscure older series and movies while stringing along subscribers with that sweet, sweet franchise content. In this case, that means lingering episodes of National Treasure: Edge of History and Willow and the launch of a new season of Clone Wars spinoff Star Wars: The Bad Batch . Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 | Official Trailer | Disney+ Admittedly, I do not watch this show (nor any of the franchise’s animated offerings), but it looks pretty darn fun. At least, this is the first time I recall seeing giant crab monsters in the Star Wars universe (but only because I have blocked all memory of Attack of the Clones from my mind). Regardless, if this is your kinda thing, I have heard this show is aces, so I’m sure you’re happy to see it return. Here’s everything else dropping on the service in the first month of (gulp) 2023. In retrospect, the title alone should have been a sufficient warning: Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles . Alas, I’m old enough to be a bit nostalgic about massive telephone address books. And massive it is. Clocking over 200 minutes, Chantal Akerman's 1975 dreary drama follows three days in the monotonous routine of Jeanne, a widow, a mother, and a prostitute. I watched Jeanne’s autopilot existence, until, staring at her back as she washes dishes, I decided to fast-forward a couple of minutes, only to discover she was still at it.
