The DHS explains this extension is “due to the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on states’ ability to issue REAL-ID compliant documents.” Individuals now have until May 7, 2025—an additional 24 months after the previous May 3, 2023 deadline . I watched Jeanne’s autopilot existence, until, staring at her back as she washes dishes, I decided to fast-forward a couple of minutes, only to discover she was still at it.
