If you encounter these sites frequently, automatic redirects can help take you to a better place (on the internet, at least). Sometimes the desktop versions of websites have options that are missing from their mobile counterpart—you can make a redirect to switch to the desktop version of any site automatically. In other cases, you may prefer to open some sites in an app as opposed to the browser. Or you might want to automatically redirect a URL to remove paywalls from certain sites. For most people, Firefox or Brave (along with a few settings changes) is good enough. But Apple’s iCloud backups were tangled in a mess of different encryption standards. Some things on iCloud, like your health data and passwords, are end-to-end encrypted. But a lot of stuff, like your notes, your photos, and your iMessages (when backing up to iCloud), aren’t. Apple now is starting to right this wrong, introducing a way to manually enable end-to-end encryption on many new data types. What is Advanced Data Protection, and how does it work? While some data you back up to iCloud was end-to-end encrypted, like Health data, Apple held the decryption keys to other data, like iMessages, photos, and notes. The benefit there was Apple could help you retrieve much of your important data if you lost your Apple ID login, but Apple having the theoretical power to read our messages didn’t sit well with many people. Advanced Data Protection for iCloud fixes the issue (for the most part). With it, the number of data types end-to-end encrypted in iCloud backups jumps to 23. Mail, Contacts, and Calendar are the big three that aren’t E2EE, but at least now, Apple doesn’t have the keys to the rest of your data. Apple has certain restrictions (like using the Mac App Store to ship updates) that drive ad b locker developers away from their browser, and as a result, your favorites from Firefox or Chrome might not work well on Safari, if they’re even available at all. There still are a few good ad blockers that you can use with Safari, though. Adguard If you want a good free ad blocker for Safari, Adguard is among the best options. It’s fast, free, and works well without any additional customization, which is great for most people. If you want the ability to set up custom filter lists, DNS-level adblocking, and additional security features, you can check out Adguard Pro ($10).
