The Key to Becoming More Creative and Innovative

Image
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Curiosity is a muscle — and that muscle needs to be exercised if you want to be more innovative or deliver on creative work. But as with anything that must be developed or worked on, most of us look for shortcuts. From workouts to productivity tools to grocery shopping … we're all attracted to time-saving hacks that offer fast results and immediate solutions. This can happen in creative work when we look for shortcuts or try fast-tracking the process by pulling inspiration from design galleries or others' websites. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with your team members trying to optimize their time by turning elsewhere for inspiration. Your team should be doing that. Often. But if that's all they're doing — if they're relying solely on inspiration from others' work — then they're stunting their curiosity's growth. Without a well-developed sense of curiosity, t...

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Depending on the headlines you believe, we're either headed for a long, ugly recession , or parts of the world are already in one . Either way, it's not pretty — and consumers and advertisers are bracing for impact. Even in July, when the markets were momentarily showing signs of recovery, and gas prices were dropping, 54% of U.S. adults said they plan to pull back on their spending for the remainder of 2022. While that means budget cuts and even layoffs are a reality, it doesn't have to mean that your advertising dollars stop working for you. Domino's Worker in Australia Helps Out Kid Ditched At Birthday Party

Image
Not having anyone show up for your birthday party is a harrowing experience — but it can be made better by a little cake. That was the philosophy of one Domino's worker who's going viral for stepping up to help a child facing loneliness on her special day, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. In October, a girl's mom had called the Queensland, Australia restaurant about an order previously placed for a large group of people that would not be needed. "When she arrived at the store to collect the one pizza, shift supervisor Miles surprised her with a custom chocolate dessert pizza topped with churros & brownies!" the company's Australia page wrote in a Facebook post about the event. "Thank you Miles for going the extra 'mile' to help turn this customer's day around," the company added. "When I first heard that one of our customers wanted to cancel a large pizza order after only one friend turned up to her daughter's birth...

Elon Musk Is the New Owner of Twitter: What Happens Now?

Image
Elon Musk is wasting no time in overhauling Twitter upon his acquisition of the company. In a leaked email — sent aggressively at around 2:30 a.m. — local time on Thursday, Musk laid into employees and said that working remotely would no longer be an option and he was expecting 40+ hour weeks in-office, apart from those with exceptions that Musk must approve. "Frankly, the economic picture ahead is dire," Musk wrote. "The road ahead is arduous and will require intense work to succeed." Musk's outlook was bleak, reportedly even telling employees on Thursday that bankruptcy was not out of the question, according to Reuters . In his email, Musk continued to drive home the importance of upping Twitter Blue subscriptions, his new policy wherein the platform charges users a $7.99 monthly fee in order to display a blue checkmark next to their name, something any user can purchase without verifying their identification. To counteract that, Musk introduced...

4 Leadership Lessons I Learned From a Marine Corps General

Image
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Leadership is one of those skills that most people believe they have, but very few actually do, and that's unfortunate because effective leadership is critical to being a successful entrepreneur. If you want to grow your company beyond a one-person operation, you need the ability to effectively lead a team. The larger your team grows, the more effective your leadership skills need to be because you're further from the front lines. I've been fortunate enough to have experienced a wide range of leadership styles throughout my career. Some served as powerful examples to model, while others served as examples to avoid. But I learned something important from every single one of them. And without question, one of the most effective leaders I've had the opportunity to meet is Marine Corps General Anthony Henderson . I first met him while I was serving in the Marine Corps when he took command...

3 Adaptive Strategies to Better Navigate Uncertain Times Ahead

Image
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Most business leaders can agree, the last few years have been anything but ordinary. From unprecedented circumstances like the global pandemic to record high inflation, the atypical has become typical in our everyday existence. The U.S. military coined acronym VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) is more relevant today than ever before. It represents the challenges teams, business leaders and organizations face as we navigate uncertain times. These unpredictable forces require a new approach. Instead of looking to the past to rewrite our future, we would benefit from paving a new path towards resiliency — one that takes a holistic approach in today's business environments. As we confront ongoing challenges without a manual, leaders are navigating conditions our predecessors have not yet laid the groundwork for. For many entrepreneurs, resiliency has not been an imperative leadershi...
