Your Gmail Account Has Unlimited Addresses

Image
Photo : Jarretera ( Shutterstock ) One Gmail, one address. That seems right. After all, you have one phone number, and one home address. The same should be true for your email addresses, Gmail included. As it happens, though, your Gmail account has an unlimited number of addresses you can use whenever you want, fooling everyone from Netflix to spammers alike. There are actually a couple of methods here. The first is what allows you to turn your single gmail address into infinite addresses, through a tactic called “plus addressing” (a fitting name). In order to take advantage of plus addressing, you simply type a plus (+) after the local-part (the name before the @), then type whatever you want. For example, if my Gmail address were jake@gmail.com, I could type jake+lifehacker@gmail.com, or jake+gomedia@gmail.com. The service you’re using that email with will think it’s an entirely new address, but any emails to that address will still be sent to your inbox. This works for any Gmai...

The Best Privacy-Focused Browsers You’ve Never Heard Of

Image
Photo : SFIO CRACHO ( Shutterstock ) There’s never a bad time to switch to a browser that respects your privacy more than Chrome does. For most people, Firefox or Brave (along with a few settings changes) is good enough. But if you’re after a browser designed entirely with privacy in mind, you have even better options than those, too. Of course, no matter which browser you use, you’re never going to magically disappear from the internet. But these four browsers start with privacy-friendly add-ons pre-loaded, and they claim to send no telemetry data as well. They’re great if you want to reduce tracking from advertising networks and your ISP, but not so much if you’re worried about surveillance from governments. LibreWolf LibreWolf is a Firefox-based browser with uBlock Origin pre-loaded . It doesn’t send any telemetry data back to its developers, and prioritizes privacy-focused search engines such as DuckDuckGo over the usual Google or Bing defaults. You can think of this browser ...

Here’s How Much Data Companies Will Harvest From You on Cyber Monday

Image
Photo : Rawpixel.com ( Shutterstock ) If you’re shocked to learn the internet isn’t a great place when it comes to your privacy , welcome to your first day online. Companies track everything you do when browsing the web, sometimes down to your individual keypresses and mouse clicks, and gobble up as much of your personal information as they can get their hands on. When you shop this Cyber Monday, and throughout the entire 2022 holiday season for that matter, know you aren’t just handing over your hard-earned dollars to retailers, you’re also giving out your data. The problem with shopping online is there are so many points at which you can lose you data . There are the stores themselves, which collect as much as they can while you browse their sites. On top of that, there are third-party trackers that follow you around from site to site, building a profile of your browsing habits. Then there are third-party services like Honey that help improve the shopping experience or...

TausiInsider's 22 Favorite Apps of 2022

Image
Photo : redart14 ( Shutterstock ) Unlike most of the apps on this list, BeReal is a viral sensation . If there’s one app that defined 2022, it’s the one that got us all to take a photo at the same time each and every day. The best part? It’s the same app it was when it blew up: No frills, no new features, just a simple concept that makes it fun to use whenever the notification goes off. For the uninitiated, here’s how BeReal works: The app sends a notification warning users they have two minutes to BeReal. To BeReal, you take a photo of where you are and what you’re doing, both through the front camera and the rear camera. Then, you see what all your other friends are up to. You don’t have to BeReal within the two minute window, but it will mark your post as late (though it’s no big deal). You can BeReal on iPhone and Android . https://www.tausiinsider.com/tausiinsiders-22-favorite-apps-of-2022/?feed_id=327830&_unique_id=641876db86ea6
